60cm Wide RISO ScreenMaster Mesh

70Mesh RISO ScreenMaster is now available in 60cm width by the metre - previously only a full 20M roll was available.

Ideal for large screens, dress materials, clothes, bags and all large print jobs.

Note: This item will generally not be stocked by supplier and will need to be ordered, so please order a few days prior to commencing your print job.

Pack: Each Weight: 100g

Screen Masking Tape

Eliminate pinholes by masking outside areas of the screen. Screen Masking Tape is used with both Screen Printing & PRINT GOCCO Masters.

Using Screen Masking Tape

Screen masking Tape is used to eliminate pinholes/ tiny dots/ marks (pictured right) that appear on your screen.
H When pinholes appear on the first print they are generally caused by poor artwork (mostly photocopies)
H If pinholes appear during printing this normally is a sign of excessive pressure being used during the printing process

Leaving a 2 cm. wide border around the outside of the design, cover the open areas of the Screen with Screen Masking Tape. Attach the tape to the film (smooth) side of the ScreenMaster as pictured left.

When pinholes are too close to the design, mask the screen with Screen Masking Tape and then use RISO Correction fluid for the areas close to the design as shown right.

Pack: 75M roll Weight: 140g

Double Sided Tape

Double Sided Tape is now supplied in a more economical 50 Metre roll, making the RISO system even cheaper to use.
Rejuvenate all your frames by replacing the double sided tape that hold the RISO ScreenMaster in place.
H Each application of tape typically lasts 4 to 5 screens
H Washing frames under cold water when cleaning, will lessen the adhesion and a typical life of the tape is about 2 screens

Pack: 50M roll Weight: 135g

Screen Printing Made Easy

Never before has screen printing been so fast and easy, in fact no screen printing experience is necessary to begin making screens!

In our newsletters we often explain Screen Printing applications and ‘how to . .’ information, but why is RISO such a great Screen Printing system and what equipment do you need to start Screen Printing?

RISO Screen Printing gives you:

4 LOW COST with professional results - reusable screens and materials
4 NO experience necessary - FAST and SIMPLE to use - from artwork to printing in minutes!
4 Chemical FREE operation - Safe, dry screen making process
4 One machine makes all sizes - T-shirt size A4 and A5 sizes, plus large A3 size from the one machine!
4 Create screens and print from a bench top or table - in light conditions
4 Screens & equipment wash up in cold water - no solvents/ detergents
4 Screens can be stored for later use - on or off the frame

Traditional photochemical emulsion and hand cut stencils are costly and very time consuming processes to make a screen. They require knowledge of screen making and generally about 24 hours to make a screen, with often hit and miss results.

With RISO all these age old problems are eliminated and an easier way of Screen Printing is available.

There are 5 basic elements to screen printing with RISO:
1. A screen imaging system - RISO Screen Printing Kit (or PRINT GOCCO model)
2. RISO ScreenMaster - thermal screen printing mesh
3. Frame Mounts
4. Squeegee
5. Screen Printing Ink

RISO Screen Printing Kit Makes Screen printing Easy

All 5 elements above are now available in a single kit, with an imaging machine (PG-5 model), RISO ScreenMaster, Frames, Squeegee, Ink & easy to understand instructions to get you going instantly!

Printing Plastics with B6 & B5 Print Masters

Plastics & metals are a non-absorbent material, so when we print them the ink sits on top of the item and then cures/ bonds as it dries, unlike fabric inks which are absorbed. This means we can not have the screen directly on top of the item or the ink will smudge / blur when we lift the screen.

We easily get around this problem by elevating the screen slightly above the item and then printing, this process is called ‘off contact’ printing - you may have heard us mention this before.

We also need to use a finer grade mesh then the normal 70Mesh, used for fabric screen printing, to eliminate the ‘mesh mark’ caused by the inks not being absorbed. The PRINT GOCCO B6 & B5 Print Masters are an ultra fine 200Mesh and can be used for screen printing in short run applications (up to about 500 prints).

The process is divided into 4 steps:
Imaging your Print Master
Mounting your screen to a frame
Elevating your screen
Printing

A simple guide on how to use B6 & B5 Print Masters to print plastic & metals.

Materials Required

  1. B6 Print Masters (code: S-489) or B5 Print Masters (code: S-180)

  2. Imaging system - RISO Screen Printing Kit, RISO Ceramic Printing Kit or PRINT GOCCO model (PG-5, PG-11, PG Arts, B6, B5, etc.)

  3. Long Life Squeegee - 110mm for B6 Print Masters or 170mm for B5 Print Masters

  4. Plastic Frame Mounts - 3 x Small for B6 Print Master or 5 x Large for B5 Print Masters

  5. RISO Aqua Ink for Plastics/ Metals

Step 1 - Imaging your Print Master/Screen

Prepare your artwork for imaging by eliminating any moisture and excess carbon from the design. Use the Artwork Clean-Up Process before imaging your artwork.

Imaging your Print Master for screen printing is exactly the same as for Paper/ Card printing - instructions are detailed in your Operation Manual or on separate Information Sheets in the TRAINING section of the site.

The process involves:
a) Insert your Print Master into the machine
b) Place your artwork onto the Pad Table
c) Insert Print Lamps into the Lamp Housing
d) Insert the Lamp Housing into the Machine
e) Press down and Image your Print Master

Step 2 - Mounting your Print Master to a Frame

After imaging your design onto your Print Master, remove it from the machine

Tear the plastic flap from the Print Master, as pictured right, as this is not used when screen printing with the Print Master

Prepare the plastic frame by remove the protective coating of the double sided tape along the two long edges of the plastic frame. Leave the tape on the two short edges of the plastic frame.

Place your Print Master onto the plastic frame with film side in contact with the double sided tape - cardboard facing upwards, pictured left.

Your Print Master is now attached to the plastic frame by the long sides of the frame. You will note the Print Master is slightly shorter than the frame - this is why we leave the double sided tape on the short sides.

Step 3 - Elevating the screen for 'off contact' printing

As the screen must be elevated for printing, the printable area of the screen decreases the higher we elevate - we cant print right to the very edges without tearing the screen!

As we are using B6 and B5 Print Masters the maximum size we can print is almost the same each time.

We elevate the B5 Print Master slightly higher as the larger the screen size the higher we need to elevate to stop the middle of the design ‘sticking’ when printed.

Place the additional plastic frames under the attached screen and test the height, pictured right. We are trying to elevate the screen as high as possible above the item BEFORE the edges are not able to touch the item below.

How hard should you press to test? You should be able to gently press down over the design area with your finger and the screen will come in contact with the item.

If you are pressing too hard you may stretch/ tear the screen. There is no need for hard pressure - use the squeegee if you are unsure and simply perform a dry print (instead of using your finger to test).

Remember, you can always increase/ decrease the height of the screen after you begin printing, as you use the straight edges of the frames for your registration (covered below) so changing height is fast & easy.

Step 4 - Printing your design

By now you should have the Plastic Frames and Print Master stuck together and set to the correct height for printing.

The actual printing process is the same as for screen printing plastics, excepting you use RISO Aqua Ink. Do not use extra pressure on the squeegee when printing - the screen will naturally lower to the item when printing

The final step is to register the print over the item, this best done using a NEHOC Screen Printing Jig (S-360) - or set of Jig Hinges (S-360H).

Depending upon the item you are printing, you can also set up some simple guides on a table, etc. - this often the fastest, and of course cheapest, method if only a few prints are required.
