Sydney Spectacular

Two weeks of the best sports in the world, we have been blessed - but are you like us and getting tired of watching TV each night?

Let’s get creative again. The GOCCOclub has put together a series of 3 projects which you can easily create yourself with PRINT GOCCO, Stamp Kit for Cloth or a RISO screen printing system. Use your creations at home or get an early start on your Christmas gifts (yes, it’s just around the corner).

On your marks - Project 1 Pot Holder

Set - Project 2 Placemat

GO! - Project 3 Window & Cafe Curtains

Two of the projects are enclosed with this Issue, simply contact your supplier for a copy of the third project or log onto www.nehoc.com.au/GOCCOclub.

NB: Many GOCCO customers may remember the amazing RISO Print Asobi Book (no longer available) - the projects are based on ideas from that book with many more to follow in future Issues.

How to use your computer and Using Computers and PGGOCCO this Christmas
Get your GOCCO out of the box, fire up your computer and let’s get started on your Christmas Cards. Use your GOCCO to print the colourful design on the front of the card and use your computer to create your artwork and to print the inside message.

Use your computer

Prepare your artwork/ design on the computer. There are heaps of ways you can get designs - clipart CD’s, the Internet, scan an image or of course draw one from scratch.

If you don’t have a special graphics program installed (such as PhotoShop), you can use the Windows Paint Program.

Use your GOCCO

Printing with GOCCO is cheaper than using inkjet printers and you can print colourful metallics plus also embossing your prints for an amazing effect (something your inkjet won’t allow you to do).

Use your computer created artwork and make a screen in your GOCCO. Print the front of your cards in colour - Metallic Gold and Bronze are great for Christmas, along with traditional Red and Green.

Allow to dry and then finish off in the computer.

Use your computer

Now you have printed your design in brilliant colour, use your computer to print messages on the inside of the cards by opening your word processing program. Change the page size to A5 (you can also manually adjust to the card size), divide the page into two columns and then put you text into the computer and finally print onto your card.

11th Annual Shin Kohanga Competition

If you print to the limits with your GOCCO, then this is a competition you just can’t miss. Shin Kohanga is based on the ancient Japanese art of wood block printing - where layers are printed ontop of each other to produce the final design.
Now run by the Japanese Shin Kohanga Foundation, an independent Japanese art organisation, the competition is now a truly professional operation with the winning prints touring Japan in a national art exhibition.

All entries must be original Shin Kohanga prints such as art prints, exlibris. However another mimeograph print technique such as silk screen is available for use with Shin Kohanga technique.
  • Two copies must be presented for entry
  • The edition (total number of final pieces produced) a minimum of 10 pieces of more
  • All entries must be printed on thick paper or card i.e.: art paper
Size of Print - Length: 100mm to 250mm Width: 150mm to 360mm
Closing Date - Tuesday 31st October 2000.

Your Comments

‘I have a computer and seem to use this more now for small runs (1-5), but my GOCCO is more cost effective for anything over 15 cards as I can keep the screen and re-use the design. Does the GOCCO ink come in larger tubes?’- Mrs B. Lyneham NSW
ED: Now the inks are all Hi-mesh, only 40cc tubes are available. There was a 100cc tube but this was the old style ink for standard PG masters.
‘Will the GOCCOclub be providing Artwork and designs again this Christmas. It made my cards much easier last year as I don’t have a computer or a photocopier handy?’ Mrs A. Franicivich NSW
ED - We are here to help and have included the information earlier than last year (as requested by many). See enclosed sheet.
‘Congratulations, your web site is amazing and the best on the net for GOCCO. Good to see more than just product information as I’m sure most people like me want to know how to use their GOCCO and learn new applications. I look forward to your next newsletter’ Ms A. Fromberg USA
HANDY HINTS - Get your printing up to speed
Hint 1: Set up your work area in sections, as illustrated, (based on right handed person) with unprinted materials on the left, your GOCCO/ printing jig in the middle and printed materials on the right. Move the items from left to right when printing to form a smooth flowing action.
NB: The area you will require depends upon the size of the items you are printing, plus how large you drying racks/ boards are.

Hint 2: Don’t try and print too fast straight away - let your body, hands and head, get accustomed to handling the materials in a set order and establish a printing rhythm.

Hint 3: Perform ‘quick checks’ at regular intervals (say 50 prints). Check the following:
- Screen is clean on back, printing clearly, and has not picked up lint, fibres, etc.
- Is there enough ink on the screen? Is the screen ready to print another run without stopping?
- Replenish your unprinted material pile, plus check you have enough drying racks for the next run.
- Check the adhesive under your materials. If it’s wearing out - for screen printing re-apply Table Adhesive or for PRINT GOCCO remove paper fibres from the Pad Table with stick/ masking tape.

Hint 4: When printing big quantities, split your job into smaller sections say 100 pieces. When these 100 have been printed take a quick break and also use the time to perform the ‘quick checks’ listed above.

Hint 5: Printing fast has little to do with the actual printing motion (this is the same for fast or slow), but more about how you pick up and align the materials, remove from your machine and place to dry.
