Printing Profile

Have you ever wondered what other people do with their PRINT GOCCO’s & RISO equipment?

Location: Townsville - 1st Nov ‘98

As the craft show was preparing for its final day, Masha Krasnoff was relaxing before the doors opened by walking around the show chatting to other exhibitors.

When Masha strolled past a stall, stopped and stared, she was politely asked ‘have you seen PRINT GOCCO before?’, her reply was prompt ‘Of course, I use it in my business’.

Masha Krasnoff operates a small business manufacturing Russian Punch Embroidery Kits.

The ancient art of Russian punch embroidery has been combined with the PRINT GOCCO range, allowing Masha to transfer her own designs onto fabric quickly, easily and at a low cost.

The low cost of making a RISO ScreenMaster screen printing screen with her B6 enables Masha to transfer a new design onto fabric and test the market at a cost effective price.

If a design is popular, Masha prints only a few hundreds designs at a time, therefore not qualifying for a large professional printing setup, also not having to outlay large amounts of capital on products that may take many months to sell.

The ability to create a design and transfer this onto RISO ScreenMaster screen printing mesh enables Masha to move her business with market demands. As designs become popular more prints are made, if a design is not selling then there is little lost other than an A4 screen (which is of course stored).

Masha KrasnoffQuote: ‘It’s so simple, I just squeegee the print when I want and then can store the screen for use later

This is a great example of RISO ScreenMaster providing a small business the versatility it need to remain competitive.

News

The CD-Printer B6 has seen many an avid PRINT GOCCO customer rush for information, as the name implies the ability to print CD’s.

‘Colour Designs’ are its speciality. With registration features based on the PG-11 system (adjustable Pad Table & paper guide).

Note: Printing Compact Disks require a plastic/ metal ink and must be screen printed through 135 grade RISO ScreenMaster using a screen printing jig (not as easy as PG).

The final stocks of Burgundy, Indigo Blue, Teal Green, Lime Green and Orange have been received and will now finish their introductory trial period the current stocks are sold.

Available in a set of 5 colours ($22.50 Tax Ex) $27.45 These colours should be purchased soon as they may never be available again.

Current model B5 kits are still available with the new model not available until end ‘99.

Current reports list the new B5 operating with current B5 Print Masters and supplies with the ability to image a new range of screen printing masters designed for the new unit.

There are no plans to make a larger print size with the new model.

The delay of the new model makes stocks of the current model a bargain at only $745.00.

Hints & Tips

Why does the printing pad lose its adhesive?

Paper fibres from the paper/ card stick to the pad and eventually build up to reduce the adhesion.

How to fix the problem - Use a piece of packing tape or sticky tape to lift the fibres off the pad. Simply place the tape onto the pad table and rub the back to ensure the maximum amount of fibres are removed. Pull off from one end and repeat until pad has been covered. This may take several applications depending upon the width of your tape.

Packing tape is best due to its width and requires less adhesions to clean the pad whilst printing.

Whilst printing I accidentally lowered the lid and placed a print onto the Pad Table. Will this effect the pad?

No, the pad will not be damaged, however its adhesion will be lessened.

Simply place OK cleaner directly onto the pad table and rub in with a cloth (not tissue) until all the ink has been removed. Remove the OK Cleaner with a cloth (not tissue as this has too many lose paper fibres) and your pad will be brought back to new, with perfect adhesion.

Hints & Tips

B6 Print Masters don’t stick to my Hand Stamper!

The bottom to the Hand Stamper collects dust/ paper fibres/ etc and lose its ability to stick to the B6 Print Master.

Rub the base of the Hand Stamper with Methylated spirits. This must be done quickly so the sponge underneath does not absorb any of the fluid.

It is also a practical method to tape the Print Master to the Hand Stamper regardless of the adhesive as this ensures it will not move whilst printing.

Storing RISO ScreenMaster Which way should it curl?

Once you have finished screen printing, scrape all the ink off the squeegee and screen with your ink knife.

Perform a screen printing onto scrap paper without any ink on the screen or squeegee. Keep your squeegee angle high, around 80 degrees. This will clean your screen and also collect ink remaining on the screen which may be scraped off and placed back into the jar.

Rinse the screen under slow running cold water, rubbing the top (rough) side with a soft cloth to remove excess ink. Place aside to dry. Once dry remove from the screen and roll against the natural curl - shiny (smooth) side outwards.
